3 Selangor Schools Closed due to Haze

SHAH ALAM - Three schools in the state were forced to close following a reading of the Air Pollution Index (API) in Johan Setia, Klang, which registered an unhealthy API of 206 this morning.

Selangor Education Department deputy director (DID) Muhamad Radzi Abdullah said, among the schools closed were Johan Setia National School, Jalan Kebun National Secondary School and Jalan Kebun SK.

"The DID is aware of the haze issue in Johan Setia area. The closure of the school is in accordance with the Malaysian Ministry of Education's Posting Order directing the school to close immediately until the air condition is restored," he said.

"The closure of the school does not affect the conduct of all types of examinations including the public examinations which will continue as scheduled," he added.

In addition to Johan Setia who recorded extremely poor air quality, four other locations with severe haze problems are Shah Alam (134), Klang (134), Petaling Jaya (130) and Banting (125).

However, it was reported that the state of Sarawak's IPU, which had previously recorded extremely poor air quality, had recovered.

The Air Pollution Index (API) reading of 0-50 shows good air quality, 51-100 (medium), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy) while over 300 dangerous.

The public can refer to the Department of Environment (DOE) website at http://apims.doe.gov.my/v2/ or by downloading the MyIPU smartphone app on Google Play to get the latest API readings every hour.
