SHAH ALAM - The re-alignment of the Inisiatif Peduli Rakyat (IPR) scheme enables Selangor to incorporate the value of shared prosperity among the public as had been encouraged by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said Selangor was known as the state that cares for its people for the past 10 years by creating 42 programmes that benefit the people of Selangor from all walks of life.

“The government wants to focus on the people with needs, not just the low-income households but also those in the middle-class group," said Amirudin.

"Among the elements that need help is education and entrepreneurship," he added.

Amirudin said this during the 'Spreading Selangor Economic Prosperity' talk at a television station last night.

At the same time, Amirudin said he had decided to re-balance the grant of IPR as there was a group that he did not see fit to accept the initiative.

“For example, the free water initiative is very valuable to the underprivileged, but it is certainly not fair for high-income groups to also receive this as they can afford it," he said.

Amirudin added that when it comes to shared prosperity, Selangor is already in the lead.

Last August, the Selangor Government announced the restructuring of IPR schemes involving eight schemes.

Among them are the Kasih Ibu Smart Selangor,  Peduli Sihat scheme, Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor, Bekalan Air Percuma,  Mesra Usia Emas scheme, Kesihatan Wanita scheme, Bantuan Sihat Selangor, and the Rumah Selangorku scheme.
