SHAH ALAM - The state government has left it to the police regarding the status of allowing or prohibiting Dr Zakir Naik to conduct talks in Selangor.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said security matters should be sought from the police in order to prevent the incident.

“It is up to the police to determine the outcome. When it comes to safety issues, we need to get advice from the police," said Amirudin.

"So the matter of prohibition and so on is the advice of the police, as it concerns security and also some issues that were raised before," he added.

Amirudin said this to the media after the opening ceremony of the AVISENA Women's and Children's Specialist Hospital in Section 14 here on 22 August.

The opening ceremony of the hospital was officiated by Duli Yang Maha Mulia the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Earlier, National Police Chief Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador was reported to have said that Dr Zakir was not allowed to give lectures on all mediums including on social media.

He said the ban on giving talks across the country was in effect until the police investigation was completed.
