
SHAH ALAM - The Selangor Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has disposed of a wide range of counterfeit branded goods and spare parts of vehicles involving 107 cases worth RM 1.29 million from January to the present.
Its director, Muhammad Zikril Azan Abdullah, said the case was based on a breach of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, the Trade Description Act 2011, the Copyright Act 1987, and the Consumer Protection Act 1999.
"All the cases have been completed by the court process and Selangor KPDNHEP has obtained the permission to dispose of the goods," he told reporters at the disposal of KPDNHEP exhibits at Bukit Raja Industrial Estate here on 24 July.
He added that artificial seizures involving 19 cases worth RM 188,664 that comprises of clothing, health products, spare parts and shoes will be disposed of and that this is the seventh time the Selangor KPDNHEP implemented the disposal of counterfeit goods.
In the meantime, commenting on the modus operandi of counterfeit merchants, Zikril Azan said they usually offer a range of online sales promotions besides being shielded behind the buyer's premises.
Hence, he warned any traders not to engage in or sell counterfeit goods to avoid facing consequences from the authorities.
"Consumers are also advised not to buy counterfeit items as an initiative to protect the property rights of the original owner of the trademark. Furthermore the counterfeit products are of poor quality," he stated.
