KLANG - Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Selangor has confirmed the fire  that killed two siblings in the incident at Jalan End Kampung Endah, Banting near here yesterday, has nothing to do with any criminal elements.

Its director, Norazam Khamis, said his initial investigation showed the house that was on fire incident was caused by short circuit.

"Initial investigation found that (house fire) was due to short circuit, but we are conducting further investigation into this incident," he told reporters after attending the Selangor JBPM Monthly Assembly at the Fire and Rescue Center here.

At the event, JBPM Selangor received a van that was donated by a community activist, Kuan Chee Heng or better known as 'Uncle Potato'.

Commenting further, Norazam said that in the wake of the fire that killed two teenagers yesterday, their parents were absent from home due to preparing food orders for ffiremen at a chemical plant at Pulau Indah Industrial Park, Port Klang.

"We JBPM Selangor recorded condolences to the parents of these two siblings and the sacrifices they have poured out that are very good to the department," he said.

In the incident that happened at 2.48 am on 15 July, the body of Salsabila Mohd Fakrul Khair, 16, and her sister Nur Ain Sumayyah, 13, were found in the room by firefighters after the fire was completely extinguished.

In another development, Norazam said the company would inspect all factories in the Pulau Indah industrial area to identify if hazardous and flammable chemicals were stored at the premises.

He said the move had to be done so that the department could prepare ahead of time and be more vigilant in the event of fire at the factories.

He said that through inspections on each plant, firefighters could know how to deal with fires involving chemicals as each of the materials had different ways to get rid of them.

"Like fires in three factories last week, we did not know what the plant was storing until there was a case (a factory fire) resulting in seven members injured due to a small explosion during a fire fighting operation. Fortunately at that time, members are not in the factory, otherwise they will be seriously injured, " he said.
