SHAH ALAM - The state government renamed Jalan Semangat in Petaling Jaya to Jalan Professor Khoo Kay Kim in remembrance of the late Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Dr Khoo Kay Kim.
Selangor Menteri Besar, Amirudin Shari, said the renaming of the road had received the consent of Duli Yang Maha Mulia (DYMM) Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
"I would like to inform that the DYMM Sultan of Selangor has given his consent on renaming Jalan Semangat in Petaling Jaya to Jalan Professor Khoo Kay Kim in remembrance of all services and kindness of the late Professor to the country," he said in a statement.
Jalan Semangat, located at Section 14 Petaling Jaya, starts from Sin Chew Media building to Jaya Shopping Center.
Dr Khoo, who died on 28 May at the University of Malaya Medical Center (PPUM), was described as a nationalist and a patriot, especially his involvement in drafting the Rukun Negara, as an effort to restore country-state harmony on 13 May, 1969.
As a scholar of history, the great contribution of the late was in the formation of Malaysia's 19th century historiography.
The main works of the late includes 'The Western Malay States 1850-1873' and 'The Effects of Commercial Development on Malay Politics' has become a canon in the history of Malaysia.
He was also actively involved in providing political views and issues relating to nation building and football.
