AMPANG - Selangor once again took the lead to create the first Smart Farming in the country.

Exco of Public Infrastructure and Facility, Agricultural Modernization and Agro-based Industry, Ir Izham Hashim said the town's agricultural pilot project under Agro Bandar is expected to begin in August.

He said it was interesting to note that the crop and livestock project would use modern technology with the use of applications through gadgets to control crop work such as fertilizer and water use.

"We target this 'Smart Farming' project to produce high-quality agricultural products, amongst the initial crops we suggest is exotic watermelons which are quite expensive," said Izham.

"Most importantly through this agricultural project, it will use a sustainable method that does not allow the use of toxins instead of just natural microorganisms," he added.

He said this during the Pandan Indah Legislative Assembly's Aidilfitri Area at the Cempaka Hall here on 23 June.

Izham stated that the 'Smart Farming' is currently in the final stages of the plan and is expected to commence its implementation in the Pandan Jaya area.

"It will be completed within three months and if it is successful we will implement it elsewhere," said Izham.

"The estate will be managed by both individuals and companies, and I'm sure the modern agricultural pilot project in the city will attract more young people," he said.
