AMPANG - The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) through the Immediate Action Force (PANTAS) is ready to face any possible disaster following the northeast monsoon change from November to March next year.

MPAJ President Dato 'Abd Hamid Hussain said this is to ensure that disaster events such as landslides, fallen trees and mud rains that occurred in the local authority area could be managed at the best possible level.

"PANTAS, consisting of 25 enforcement members, will be preparing for 24 hours, seven days a week and working on a turn for eight hours per shif.

"In addition, PANTAS is also assisted by 80 enforcement officers from the MPAJ Enforcement Department which is divided into 10 disaster management groups, as a support unit to manage the disaster in this area more efficiently," he said.

He said this when chairing The Full Meeting of MPAJ Bil. 12/2018, at the Meeting Room 1, Menara MPAJ, on 24 Dec.

At the same time, Abd Hamid said that if the catastrophic event was of a large scale, it would also seek help from other departments to co-operate in addressing such problems.

He said it included the Youth, Community and Landscape Department, Valuation and Property Management Department and Engineering Department according to the type of disaster that occurred.

"We are given special training in disaster management, besides being responsible for disaster events that do not involve the loss of life and serious property damage

"However, we hope that efforts so far will not bring any disaster, especially beyond our control," he said.

As of November last year, PANTAS MPAJ manages 158 disaster cases covering 138 incidents of fallen trees, seven floods, 11 landslides and two sedimentation grounds.
