SABAK BERNAM - After 10 years of introduction to the public, the Peduli Rakyat Initiative Program (IPR) will focus on the empowerment of the people's lives.
Selangor Menteri Besar, Amirudin Shari said although the State Government is still providing assistance to the target groups, a paradigm shift should be made so that the people will not rely solely on their contribution, but also rise to a better life.
"We are doing some studies to see how far the IPR program has managed to change lives and keep the people out of poverty.
"We need to see whether the people rely solely on the Government's assistance, even though it is our responsibility to help each other.
"The people should be empowered and we need to focus on that aspect. Our task is not only to give cash directly to the people but to also ensure that their skills and potential are sharpened better, "he said.
This was said at the Public Service Meeting between the Selangor Menteri Besar and the State Government EXCO in conjunction with the Joint Progress on Sabak Bernam, today.
According to Amirudin, the Selangor HIJRAH business aid program lending to 50,000 people saw 60 per cent of them succeeded in changing their lives through increments in their income.
Thus, the State Government's move should not merely be a form of assistance given to the people over the years, but rather to educate the people to strengthen their skills towards better success in life.
Amirudin said as implementers and representatives of the State Government, public servants themselves should be prepared to deal with the changes so that all planning can be implemented properly to the people.
"I hope civil servants in Selangor can work with the Federal Government agency and strengthen the relationship so that none of the corners in the state are marginalized from progress," he said.
Amirudin said that the state has to go forward and be in the forefront and that failure to change attitudes from any parties will not help in getting the expected results.
