SHAH ALAM - The public who are detected to fly drones without permission are at risk of being arrested by the authorities, said the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

In a statement on Facebook, PDRM said those found guilty could be detained in accordance with Rule 143 (Civil Aviation Rules 2016).

"They can also be charged under Section 206 (3) of the Civil Aviation Regulations," said the statement.

At the same time, PDRM said there were several locations prohibited to use drones, including Putrajaya.

According to the statement, this is because the location is the center of government administration besides it being the official residence of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister.

"If anyone wants to fly a drone, there must be an application to the Ministry of Home Affairs first and get approval from the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia.

"In addition to Putrajaya, the Istana Negara airspace, the Parliament environment, areas around KLCC and the airport area are also prohibited to fly drones," said the statement.
