PONTIAN: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) are set to form a special committee in seeking proper mechanism to tighten the issuing of driving licenses.
JPJ Director general Shaharuddin Khalid said this after the arrest made by Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC) on 12 JPJ officers pertaining to 'lesen terbang' or illegal licenses.
"Among the methods we are looking at is improving our computer systems to make it harder for certain parties to abuse the matter in an attempt to issue 'lesen terbang'".
Shaharuddin urged 'lesen terbang' holders return the fake license to JPJ and retake a proper and certified driving test.
Although admitting to receiving 'lesen terbang' from owners, he however declined to elaborate further without even specifying any numbers.
'Lesen Terbang' are usually obtained through illegal means of making payment without having to take any practical or even written driving test.
Authorities have since given 'lesen terbang'vholders a month to surrender their driving licences to avoid any prosecutions.
Transport Ministry have said that JPJ has the information of those who had obtained their licences by paying JPJ officers.
A majority of 14,000 drivers believed to have obtained their licences through such method are Malaysians and foreigners, mainly from China.
