SEPANG: The Transport Ministry will set up Malaysian Aviation Council in an attempt to connect the government directly to the industry’s stakeholders.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said this new approach will act as a platform for all stakeholders to engage with the government.

He said through the council, issues dwelling within the aviation industry can now be addressed directly at the ministerial level.

"In the past, the minister had separate discussions and engagements with the stakeholders in the aviation industry but we want to have one platform for all stakeholders," he said.

Speaking to reporters after a ground breaking ceremony at KLIA2 today, Loke said that the council is expected to have meetings once every three months, where he will be chairing the meetings himself.

The Malaysian Aviation Council will be draft based on the Malaysian Transportation Council as well as the Malaysian Shipping and Maritime Council.

He hoped that the setting up of the council will further improve and Malaysian aviation industry forward to a greater heights.
