PETALING JAYA: Putrajaya may very well review the recent appointment of Education Minister Maszlee Malik as the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) president.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the matter is not set in stones where the government can easily change their decision should they feel its necessary.
He said this especially since the recent appointment had drawn plenty og negative feedbacks in social media.
"Many have given their thoughts, we are very sensitive when it comes to public opinion.
"We will review this appointment as its not set in stones. We can change our grounds," he told a press conference after Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council meeting.
On Wednesday, it was reported that Maszlee was appointed as president
of IIUM, after replacing Rais Yatim as the seventh president.
Maszlee, a former student and later a lecturer of IIUM, became the third education minister to assume the president post since the university's establishment.
This had drawn criticism from netizens, opposition leaders as well as leaders within Pakatan Harapan coalition itself, fearing that it will generate conflict of interest.
