SHAH ALAM, SEP 29: A special team must be formed to combat money lending scam advertised in social media, said the Malaysian Islamic Consumers’ Association (PPIM) Head of Activist, Datuk Nadzim Johan.

Nadzim said, those involved in this irresponsible scheme should be arrested, while the special team to address this issue should include the Communication and Multimedia Ministry, Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

“In the past, borrowers from unlicensed lenders (Ah long) had to pay a high interest but now, victims are being tricked to pay tens of thousands as loan processing fee,” he said in the capital yesterday, reported BERNAMA.

He said, the borrowers’ applications from these unlicensed lenders are still not approved and suspected to be fake although victims have paid various charges that they asked.

He said, victims were deceived as the Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) and the bank’s logos were displayed causing desperate victims to believe the advert.

Nadzim said he has received over 10 reports relating to this problem and hopes immediate action will be taken to prevent more people becoming victims.
