SHAH ALAM, SEP 15: Gelang Patah Member of Parliament, Lim Kit Siang described the meeting between Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak with United State’s (US) President, Donald Trump as a meeting between the head of a colonised state with the king to present tribute.
In a statement, he said that the Trump-Najib meeting in White House was a humiliation to Malaysia as it did not reflect a meeting between two sovereign state leaders on equal footing, on the contrary, it was as though a head of a colonised state was visiting the king to present tribute such as ‘Bunga Mas’.
“Najib claimed that Trump’s invitation to White House is a recognition to Malaysia as a ‘shining star’.

“Does he realise that 15 out of 32 foreign leaders that Trump has invited so far were from countries below the Global Democracy Rank metric ranking 112 democratic countries in the world, including Saudi Arabia which openly do not practice democracy?” he asked.
Lim also questioned Najib and his delegations’ three-day stay at the Trump International Tower besides asking if the accommodation had cost thousands of US dollars.
According to him, Najib may be breaching US regulations restricting a president from receiving any gift or payment for service given by a foreign government while in being that country.
Last Wednesday, an influential US newspaper, The Washington Post said, Najib and his delegation’s stay at the hotel owned by Trump in the US capitol raised questions on conflict of interest with White House.
