SHAH ALAM, SEP 15: Life as a statesman’s wife has given the opportunity for Tun Dr Siti Hasmah to observe women’s struggles from various angles.
She said that it proves women play an important role in society development through various fields whether to address humanitarian or economic issues.
“Several days earlier, I had the chance to see the emotions and characters of women in the country, on September 9 in Muar, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) anniversary where women there had emerged as champions of small entrepreneurs in their respective stalls displaying what they are capable of.
“Some were selling cosmetics, herbal medicines, food and drinks, ultimately showing that women are not only champions but also businesswomen.
“I was very impressed with their enthusiasm and next day, their characters changed in the Women Against Toxic Politics peaceful rally,” she said.

She said this in her speech in conjunction with the inauguration of the 15V Variation & Verstil paintings featuring the visual artwork of 15 famous women artists, at the Shah Alam Gallery yesterday.
Tun Siti Hasmah said she also had the opportunity to see women's fight to upgrade their education level in a programme at the Multimedia University (MMU).
At the same time, she also saw women in Kedah facing sadness following the death of Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, on September 11.
"Women must strive to achieve success regardless of the areas they are involved in," she said.
