SHAH ALAM, SEP 14: The fire incident at Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Tahfiz Centre in Datuk Keramat should open the eyes of relevant parties to check and ensure all tahfiz centres comply to safety guidelines.
In the Siakap Keli Facebook posting, many netizens expressed the urgent need to ensure safety aspects are in place before any tahfiz centre is allowed to operate.
“With this as a lesson, we ask the authority especially the bomba to close all tahfiz schools and check if they comply to safety guidelines and regulations. Those which do not meet the standard should be temporarily closed,” said Mann Skate in the comment box, where he received over 1,000 ‘likes’.
Mohd Azlan Lanlyn Lanfire is of the view that most tahfiz centres do not comply to bomba safety guidelines as they are short of fund.
“When something like this happen, everyone should open their eyes especially the tahfiz centres which are still operating, please take this as a lesson.
“Follow Darul Quran Kuala Kubu Bharu which is not only fully funded by the government but safety aspects for the children are also ensured,” he said with hastag #anggotabombakl

“It is so sad and disappointing at the same time as most tahfiz centre operators do not emphasize safety aspect. They must install smoke and fire detectors, grills that can be opened from inside and fire-extinguishers. It is better to get bomba’s advise. While we seek knowledge, we must also have safety aspect awareness,” said Mikey.
For Rais Rifqi, the Federal Government must help accordingly in the effort to provide a better tahfiz centre for the locals rather than giving too much to outsiders.
“Many tahfiz centres were involved in fire in the past two years due to lack of fire equipment and many are desolate besides hoping for fees from the parents.
The government should be more aware of this. ‘Jangan kera di hutan disusukan anak di rumah mati kelaparan’,” he wrote and supported by over 200 ‘likes’.
The incident this morning killed 24 lives and all of them were burnt and found to be on top of one another.
The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed there is only one entry and exit to the dormitory.
Based on JBPM’s specification, such building should have more exit and entryway.
