SHAH ALAM, SEP 4: KEADILAN Youth (AMK) has proposed for an emergency Parliamentary session to discuss the violence in Myanmar currently.

AMK Head, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said all Malaysians would be affected by the violence in Rakhine particularly those inflicted on the Rohingyas.

He said the violence and humanitarian crisis may not only disrupt the stability of Myanmar and neighbouring countries but also Southeast Asia and South Asia.

“I hope Yang Dipertua Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia will allow Members of Parliament to discuss this issue when the council meet again.

“In fact this is the best time to call for an emergency Parliamentary session to discuss the foreign policy that Malaysia needs to adopt to end this catastrophe,” he said in a statement.

Nik Nazmi said, the authority must be more tactful when dealing the Rohingya demonstrators detained recently at the Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur in accordance with the law.

At the same time, a lasting solution must be achieved quickly on the status of the Rohingyas including protecting their citizenship rights in Myanmar.

“At one time, there were several figures from the Federal Government and certain political parties who took part in the demonstration to uphold the rights of the Rohingyas.

“Therefore, all Malaysians must unite to urge the government and international community including institutions such as the PBB, OIC and Asean to take all diplomatic actions to end the violence in Rakhine,” he said.

Earlier, the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (MAPIM) denied that there was a riot in Kuala Lumpur involving a group of Rohingyas, as per a video that had been going viral.
