SHAH ALAM, AUG 30: The Selangor Government provides prayer area for more than 80,000 Muslim spectators who came to watch the Sea Games finals last night where Malaysia played against Thailand at the Shah Alam Stadium.

Islamic Religious Affairs, Malay Customs & Heritage, Rural & Traditional Villages Development Exco, Dato’ Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi said, the additional prayer area was provided after discussing with Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) and Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).

“Alhamdulillah, we can see tonight that many fans who came to cheer for our national football team still remember to carry out their religious obligations.

“Our claim is clear, we want to instill in the community the fact that sports and prayers can be done together. Prayers can done anywhere and there is no excuse to miss it,” he said as reported by Harakahdaily.

The Shah Alam Stadium had prepared two prayer halls that were Zone A and Zone B. However due to the size of the crowd last night, additional halls were provided to make it six halls where audience could also pray at Zone C and D at levels below.

“More people prayed but they had to take turns. The halls were comfortable prepared with carpets and we also invited imams to lead the prayer. The azan was from Zone B.

“At the third level, we had some issues with water for ablution. We discussed with JAIS and prepared 8,000 ‘mineral water cups’ for that.

“JAIS and the Exco also provided the ‘telekung’ for the ladies as they also have no excuse to miss their prayers,” he said.

These are pictures of the facilities provided, as shown in Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi’s Facebook page:
