KUALA LUMPUR, AUG 25: Pakatan Harapan (Pakatan) will renegotiate mega projects implemented by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration if they win the 14th General Election (GE14).

Pakatan Chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said, Pakatan is also prepared to review and cancel deals finalised by Najib if it is found put the country in too much debt for a long period of time.

“Many of these projects are mistakes and unnecessary. We need to renegotiate. In fact, we will cancel some, but we would need to pay some compensation to avoid the government from owing about RM200 billion which is worst,” he said.

He said that in a forum last night, which discussed about China’s investment issue, at the Dewan Perhimpunan Cina Kuala Lumpur dan Selangor (KLSCAH).

He said, if the government continue with the East Coast Railway (ECRL) project, it will be in debt for over 50 years ultimately burdening the government and the people.

He also said, at this time, the country do not need high-speed railway to connect the east coast and west coast of the Peninsular.
