Heath Ministry instructs factory to recall crispy flour

KUALA LUMPUR, AUG 16: The Health Ministry has asked a factory here to recall all crispy flour packed in plaster-ceiling wrappers from the market.

The Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said investigations found that the factory had wrongly used plaster-ceiling wrappers to pack the flour.

“The Health Ministry takes note of the issue which is becoming viral in social media on allegations that a premise selling fried banana in Puchong, Selangor adds a little bit of plaster ceiling to make the food crispier.

“Regarding this matter, the Ministry through its Food Safety and Quality Section has investigated the fried banana premise and found that the factory had mistakenly used wrapping paper for plaster-ceiling to pack the flour,” he said in a statement.

He said the ministry is always aware and concern on matters that might harm consumers’ health.

Dr Noor Hisham said, the local authority has also taken action on the premise for operating without a license.

The picture of a premise selling fried banana has been going viral on social media with allegations that the operator mixes the flour with plaster ceiling to make it crispier.

The public who has any doubts on food safety issue are advised to contact their nearest District Health Offices or State Health Departments besides going through website http://moh.spab.gov.my or Food Safety and Quality Section facebook account at http://www.facebook.com/bkkmhq.
