SHAH ALAM, AUG 10: The National Permata Programme (Permata) should be placed under the Education Ministry who has the expertise to ensure it is in line with the education system, said Nik Nazmi.
The Keadilan Youth (AMK) Head said, with an RM85 million budget, its existence without any ministerial supervision raises a lot of questions.
He said, furthermore it is placed under the Prime Minister’s Department and fully patronised by his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
“If Rosmah is genuinely concern about education, let Permata be supervised by Education Ministry.
“Rosmah can also donate to Education Ministry’s budget, if she really shares the public’s aspiration for success in national education,” he said in a statement.
Rosmah had said that she will convince the Prime Minister, who is her husband, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also the Finance Minister, to increase the budget for Permata.
Nik Nazmi said, there is no need to add Permata’s budget as it is already increased for 2017, while the education budget, particularly for higher education has been cut.
“It is annoying when Rosmah can casually say that she will discuss with her husband to increase Permata’s budget,” he said.
