SHAH ALAM, AUG 2: Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has filed a notice to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar demanding Low Taek Jho or Jho Low’s arrest and extradition.
The notice was filed yesterday by lawyer, Latheefa Koya who represented Mohamed Azmin stating that, IGP is given 14 days from the notice’s date (August 1, 2017) to take necessary action failing which legal action will be taken.
The matter was announced by Strategic Communications Director, Menteri Besar Selangor’s Office, Yin Shao Loong in a statement.
According to him, it is IGP’s duty and responsibility under the 1967 Police Act and Federal Constitution to take action, including to formally request assistance from the international police agency, Interpol.
“Jho Low is a Malaysian believed to be hiding abroad and he is the focus in investigations in several countries including United States, Switzerland and Singapore relating to the crime of money-laundering from the troubled investment company, 1MDB.
“Jho Low is suspected of committing several crimes under the Malaysian law, including offenses under Section 120B, 406 and 409 of the Penal Code, involving conspiracy in crime, criminal breach of trust and criminal breach of trust by agents or public servants.
“He is also suspected of committing crime relating to Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Revenue from Illegal Activities Act 2001,” he said.
