SHAH ALAM, JUL 26: A total of RM79,100 have been approved for development projects in two Orang Asal’s (indigenous people) villages in Selangor.
Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs Exco, Elizabeth Wong said, that includes a total of RM42,000 for a project to upgrade the Micro Hydro-Electric in Tanjung Rambai Orang Asli Village, Hulu Langat.
She said, another RM37,100 has been allocated for a solar installation project in 14 Orang Asal’s houses in Bukit Tunggul Orang Asli Village, Dengkil, Sepang.
“The State Government is aware that Orang Asli Villages in Selangor are still not sufficient in terms of development and facilities.
“We are also committed to ensure that they are not sidelined, and for this reason we monitor through our District Offices,” he said during the Selangor State Assembly session yesterday.
He said that in response to Dusun Tua Assemblyman, Razaly Hassan’s verbal question regarding water and electricity supply for Orang Asal community.
Wong said, the Orang Asli Development Department (JAKOA) is responsible to manage the welfare and progress of Orang Asal, under Section 4 under Orang Asli’s administration, Act 134, 1954 Orang Asli Act (1974 Ammendment).
“This include plans to provide Housing Aid Programme (PBR) with water and electricity within the Orang Asal’s settlement,” she said.
