GENEVA, JUL 13: According to United Nation’s latest report, almost one third of the world’s population is not getting safe and clean drinking water and half of them face unmanageable sanitation problems, reported China Xinhua news agency.
Besides that, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nation’s International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) reported that 2.1 billion world population has limited access to safe water supply and has no water access from their homes, while sanitation for 4.5 billion people are badly managed.
These are the main contributors to the spread of diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, hepatitis A and typhoid fever.
Out of the 2.1 billion people who has no access to safe water, 844 million has no access to a basic drinking water at all.
The progress of basic sanitation management in 90 countries are found to be too slow which means it would not meet the universal requirement by 2030.
“Clean water supply and safe sanitation management at home should not be the special privilege of the rich or the urban population alone,” said WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
He said, it is the most basic requirement for human health and every country has the responsibility to ensure everyone has access to it.
