SHAH ALAM, JUL 12: The Hijrah Selangor Microcredit Programme provides RM232 million as initial business capital for 38,000 participants, until the first quarter of its second year of implementation.

Its Executive Chairman, Datuk Dr Mansor Othman said, that number almost reaches its initial target of 56,000 for the year ending of  2017.

“This microcredit loan scheme is succefully implemented to realise Selangor State’s vision under Dato’ Menteri Besar’s reformation policies.

“Indeed, there have been many success stories throughout its implementation and this is the best platform to expand income of the middle-class group.

“This scheme is also seen as able to support the State Government in overcoming poverty in Selangor,” he said to SelangorKini.

He was met earlier at the Hijrah Selangor Aidilfitri Open House at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building today.

At the same time, Mansor Othman said, the foundation is actively monitoring the participants to overcome failure to repay the loan.

“This year, we had a slight reduction in repayment, around 80 percent, particularly in towns such as Ampang and Pandan Indah.

“Therefore, to overcome this issue, we often go down to the ground and discuss closely with the zone offices throughout the state.

“We hope the close monitoring and the thorough study that we do can help us identify methods and roots to overcome the problem,” he said.

Hijrah Selangor is an Integrated Microcredit programme conceptualised by Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, combining the SKIM SEL, MIMBAR and WALA, and has been implemented since 2008.

The programme under the Inisiatif Peduli Rakyat (IPR) is an Action Research Project that focuses on enhancing the economy of people in the middle-class category.
