SHAH ALAM, JUNE 12: Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali expressed his surprise when the date of the State Government hearing of the summons case against the Election Commission (SPR) on the issue of redelineation of electoral boundaries been brought forward a month earlier.

He said that the new date is found to be unsuitable and has been denied by the lawyer representing the State Government.

However, he said, he was informed that the case was set based on the order of the country Chief Justice.

"We are surprised by this rush as the date June 9 was set by the Court of Appeal registrar for the hearing.

"As the applicant, the State Government is responsible for demanding clarification on the out of a sudden action because this issue also involves public interest, namely the right to vote guaranteed by the Constitution," he said in a statement on June 9.

Mohamed Azmin said the court to expedite the hearing of cases that should take place on July 6 to June 9, without reason.

"Applicants are also informed that the case should be heard on June 20 on the orders of the country Chief Justice," he said.

On October 19, 2016, the State Government was represented by Mohamed Azmin filed an application for the right to challenge the proposed of redelineation of electoral boundaries of parliamentary and state elections in Selangor by the SPR.

He is also seeking a declaration that the failure of the SPR to use the latest electoral roll in redelineation of electoral boundaries was not in accordance with Section 3 of the Third Schedule of the Federal Constitution and therefore invalid and void.
