KEADILAN upholds DSAI’s statement on RUU 355

KEADILAN Central Leadership Council has held a meeting yesterday to discuss the view of its General Leader Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the proposal tabled by YB Marang, Dato’ Seri Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang and the supporting statement by YB Kota Bharu, Dato’ Takiyudin Hassan, concerning RUU355.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said in a statement:

“YB Dato’ Seri Ustaz Abdul Hadi and YB Datuk Takiyuddin explained in Parliament that amendment to Act 355 (“RUU 355”) is not an attempt to implement hudud and has guaranteed that RUU 355 does not apply to non-Muslims as it is done within the framework of Federal Constitution.”

“The emphasis here is the strengthening of Syariah Court which should be agreed in principal by everyone.”

“KEADILAN respects YB Marang’s right to table his proposition; and secondly, we seek a firm answer from the Prime Minister if the Government is prepared to form a Select Committee to examine the amendment to the Bill as proposed by YB Marang.”

Therefore, the Central Leadership Council has taken the stance to adopt the view of its General Leader as its party policy, accepting YB Marang’s presentation and to propose for a Select Committee to be established by Barisan Nasional Government to debate and discuss this issue.

Following that, any individual or group that holds a forum or discussion adopting a different view from the party, is representing themselves individually and not representing the party’s official stand.

We also recommend all KEADILAN members including KEADILAN Members of Parliament to uphold the view of Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim which has been taken as the party’s policy, in the effort to comprehensively strengthen the Syariah Court.
