MPSJ: Over RM10 million to overcome flood

PUCHONG, MAR 8: More than RM10 million has been allocated by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) to upgrade drainage systems in several flood-risk areas.

Its Yang Dipertua, Dato’ Norhisham Ahmad Dahalan said, there are several red areas in MPSJ’s jurisdiction, among them are IOI Puchong, The Mines Sri Serdang and around the Sri Aman village area.

“Studies have shown that the main cause of flood is heavy rain exceeding 80mm. In areas where the drains are small and over 20 years old, water overflows. It is also due to the development of LDP Highway and LRT.

“So we shall do something soon with the RM10 million allocation to widen drains and ditches to slow the flow of water during heavy rain,” he said.

He was speaking in a media conference after the MPSJ Immediate Response Team (Pantas) Water Emergency and Rescue Team Training today.

Besides that, he said the allocation will also be used to replace dysfunctional water pipes to ensure smooth water flow into mines and flood water recedes faster.

“The drainage work must be done for long-term purpose as the current system is over 30 years old.

“The allocation also includes contributions and cooperation from developers in the affected areas to ease the flow of water from high to low lands, especially during heavy rain to prevent flash-flood,” he said.
