SHAH ALAM, FEB 27: Racial politics which is a practice in Umno is not only a shortfall to the country but it is also dangerous as it can cause disharmony among the communities of multi races.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Deputy President, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir who was once selected as the Umno Senior Council Member also admitted that the racial politics has always been the practice in Umno to attract Malay supporters.

“Talking about racism, I know it happens as I did the same, but that was then.

“When I come over to this side and listen to oppositions’ arguments, then we realise that what we have been doing before should not be practice of any party where we are blindly being racist to the extreme.

“There are rights of every race that we can protect. Every race may have slight differences, certain rights, but we should not be extreme to the extent of denying the rights of other races who need to sacrifice for us,” he said.

Mukhriz said that during the Pakatan Harapan and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Mega Talk at Seksyen 18 yesterday.

He added that the Malays and other races will be better protected without the racial politics practiced by Umno should opposition takeover Putrajaya.

Earlier, the Selangor DAP Organisation Assistant Secretary, V. Ganabatirau criticised Umno leaders who often blame DAP by trumping up the racial cards when Umno is under pressure.

“Although none of the cabinet ministers are DAP members but Umno still blames DAP when an issue arises,” he said.
