SHAH ALAM, JAN 5: The Secretary-General of a ministry was detained with his two sons, by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday, and remanded for a week upon court order today.

The remand is to assist MACC in its investigation relating to corruption cases, power abuse and money laundering.

Putrajaya Court Magistrate, Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman allowed the 59 years old suspect called ‘Datuk’ to be remanded again today until January 11.

Both sons are 34 and 29 years old.

All suspects were detained under Section 117 of the Penal Code to assist in investigations under Section 17(a) MACC Act 2009.

Yesterday, once again the country was shocked by the arrest of a KSU, on suspicion of corruption and power abuse, in his house in USJ, Subang Jaya.

The ‘Datuk’ was arrested with his sons at 8 am and were brought to Putrajaya for further investigation.

It is believed that the sons’ roles were to receive and keep the bribe money from contractors, suppliers and vendors with interest to the Sec-Gen.

In the 12-hour operation, MACC also seized 150 branded handbags and watches plus cash and gold bars worth RM3 million.

It was claimed that the suspect had recently made a trip overseas to play golf and MACC is investigating if certain individuals had funded the related expenses.
