SHAH ALAM, DEC 29: State Government-Linked-Companies (GLC) have been asked to assist Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor (PWS) in developing abandoned wakaf lands in the state.

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member Rodziah Ismail said that is because PWS alone does not have sufficient funds to develop these lands.

She said the Muslim community will gain great benefits through this development, especially the under-privileged group.

“I propose GLCs take this initiative to develop wakaf land as their responsibility. They can cooperate with PWS to identify abandoned land.

“We can identify under-utilised land with no development plans and determine whether it is agricultural or development in status, in order to maximise its utilisation,” she said when met during the PAC briefing on PWS, at the Bangunan Annexe, on December 29.

Rodziah said a thorough study must be conducted between these organisations, to find ways to effectively develop and manage the wakaf lands.

“If the wakaf and baitulmal lands can be developed, it can greatly benefit and enhance the Muslim community socio-economically, particularly in this state,” said Rodziah who is also Batu Tiga Assemblyman.

Prior to this, PWS Chief Executive Officer Abu Bakar Yang had informed PAC on the insufficient funds need for them to develop abandoned land.
