KUALA LANGAT, NOV 21: The fighting spirit of a Philippine student in learning new cultures and lessons paid off when he managed to get the best result in the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).

Ahmed Gonzales Galender, 12, who was present to receive the excellence award at the Sijangkang constituency, was happy with his 5A results for the UPSR although he has been in Malaysia for only three years.

“Teachers, peers and my parents were the ones motivating me to study the Malay language fluently and also other subjects.

“My family and I moved to Malaysia when I was 10 years old and at that time I did not know how to even speak in Malay let alone read. However, the teachers were very determined in teaching me and finally I can give them an excellent result,” said Ahmed who aspires to be a scientist.

Teluk Panglima Garang Primary School Mathematics teacher, Saiful Anuar Basiran said he is very proud of his student’s achievement although Ahmed merely scored a C for writing, he scored A for all the other subjects.

“When I was his Maths teacher in 2014, I recall that he used to cry everyday and was upset that he did not understand the lessons taught here. His father had also fully entrusted the school to educate his son.

“When I saw his determination to learn, I asked him to mix with the Malay students. I did not expect that to produce such result. I had also asked the religious teacher in school to teach him religion and to read the Quran,” he said to SelangorKini.

Meanwhile, Anis Sofea Hasan Parid, 12, from Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) Kebun Baru is the best Mumtaz student for Sijangkang State Legislative Assembly this year.

She said, she did her revision and memorise the Quran every night without fail.

“The most important thing for success is prayers and for more benefit, perform the solat prayers. This is what my parents and teachers always remind me,” she said.
