SHAH ALAM, OCT 24: Selangor has not only retained its position as the biggest contributor to Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) but also created the highest number of jobs in the country.
Dato' Menteri Besar, Dato' Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said as many as 367,569 jobs were created through 4,790 manufacturing projects since 1999 to the second quarter this year.
He said the state also has a workforce of 3.2 million from a population of 6.14 million.

“Selangor will become even greater if we carry out our social responsibility towards the rakyat. Admittedly GDP is important, but the just and fair distribution of the state’s wealth is equally important,” he said during the Selangor International Expo 2016 opening ceremony at Seri Kembangan recently.
Selangor is first among six main GDP contributor states in 2015 according to a Malaysian Statistics Department released on September 30.
Other states include Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur with 15.1%, Sarawak (10%), Johor (9.3%), Sabah and Penang (6.6% respectively).
In the construction sector, Selangor remained in first place, contributing 31.8% compared to Kuala Lumpur with 24.4% and Johor (12.3%).
In addition, Selangor is the biggest contributor in the manufacturing sector with 28.9% followed by Penang (12.8%) and Johor (12.4%).
Selangor also dominated the service sector with a contribution of 25.1%, followed closely by Kuala Lumpur with 24.8%.
