BERA, OCT 3: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is alleged to be practising money politics to gain influence and support to continue to remain in power.

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that the ‘cash is king’ practice that is deeply ingrained in Najib’s administration has finally affected the harmony and stability of the country.

“Najib needs a lot of money to buy ministers, Umno division leaders and elected officials by giving RM1 million to each individual.

“He believes that every Malaysian would support him if they are bribed with money, but this illegal gift originates from theft,” he said.

He was speaking during the Jelajah 1MDB programme at Simpang Kepayang, Bera, Pahang on Oct 2.

Tun Mahathir said that such practices also happened during election campaigns with the intention to gain votes.

“In the by-elections in Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar, we were defeated because of Najib’s money politics that openly gave money to voters.

“This is Najib’s hope, he only bribes the rakyat and voters because he believes ‘cash is king’,” he said.

Najib has previously acknowledge the ‘cash is king’ principle can influence the rakyat’s support towards the government after Tun Mahathir questioned the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) allocation to the rakyat.
