No need to politicise water issue and be a hero, Noh Omar

SHAH ALAM, SEP 27: Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman, Tan Sri Noh Omar has been asked to stop politicising the water supply issue by accusing the Pakatan administration as negligent in finding a solution.

Damansara Utama Assemblyman Yeo Bee Yin said that since the State Government took over Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) and Puncak Niaga, many infrastructural projects have been planned and implemented.

She said, contrary to a private company that merely operates for profit, the State Government has allocated almost RM1 billion for the long-term benefit of citizens.

That included the costs for Semenyih 2 and Labohan Dagang Water Treatment Plants construction; Mitigation Projects 2 and 3; as well as 23 pipe-replacement works expected to be completed in 2017 and 2018.

“With all the ongoing projects, water supply in Selangor will be perfect by 2018,” she said in a media statement.

Yeoh reminded Noh Omar that the duty to monitor river water quality is not just the State Government’s responsibility but also the Federal Government’s agencies such as the Department of Environment (JAS).

“Both the federal and state have mutual responsibility to protect rivers from pollution and contamination.

“In any case, the focus now is to work together to quickly identify the source of the contamination to prevent the same incident from recurring,” she said.

She said, from there, the culprit can be brought to justice and punished accordingly.
