MB: Focus on legal action against EC

SHAH ALAM, SEP 23: The Selangor Government maintains its stand to refrain from having snap elections and will continue its administration as mandated by the people.

Dato’ Menteri Besar Dato’ Mohamed Azmin Ali said that the government is now focusing on lodging a protest against the Election Commission (EC) legally, if possible.

“I have stated that Selangor Government has decided to not hold any election and our focus is to look into the necessity for legal action.

“After listening to all the advice from lawyers, we want to focus our efforts on opposing EC legally,” he said to the media on September 22.

The KEADILAN Deputy President made that statement when commenting on the possibility of the Penang Government holding early elections as a protest against the EC’s proposal to redelineate electoral boundaries for the 14th General Election.

He said that he is now waiting for the lawyers’ decision for the action and it will be known by today.

“It’s within 48 hours and I have sent the letter. We will wait for the decision on September 23,” he said.

Commenting further, he said that he will leave it to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s discretion on this matter.

However, he was certain that there will be discussions should an election be deemed necessary.

“I think that will be discussed and will depend on the outcome. Selangor and Penang are different and we will listen to the proposal first,” he said.

He also explained that he was unaware if the matter has been discussed with KEADILAN President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail or not.

“Perhaps he (Guan Eng) contacted KEADILAN President, I’m not sure,” he said.
