SHAH ALAM, SEP 7: Residents, particularly students and traders in the Seksyen 7 Commercial Centre, are reminded to maintain their hygiene and cleanliness to prevent Aedes mosquitoes from breeding.
Health, Welfare, Women and Family Development Exco Dr Daroyah Alwi said although the number of dengue cases in Selangor has been fluctuating, the main aim is to reduce it.
“Petaling District is still the area that records the highest number of dengue in Selangor.
“However between the three local authorities, Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) still records the lowest number of cases compared to Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ),” she said.

She was speaking to the media during the Terjah Aedes Programme at Pusat Komersil Seksyen 7, Shah Alam.
There was an increase in dengue cases in the 35th epid-week with 1,011 cases recorded compared to 970 in the 34th epid-week.
She added that it is important to eliminate Aedes mosquitoes as it also contributes to Zika and Chikungunya diseases.
“Although Zika causes brain damage, Aedes is still dangerous is it can cause death,” she said.
Daroyah said further that the State Government is in the midst of research on a new product which may be able to eradicate Aedes breeding and a pilot project is underway in collaboration with MBSA.
In the same event, she launched Unit Tindakan Denggi (UTD) MBSA which will be activated in areas with the outbreak exceeding 100 days or exceeding 100 cases.
Prior to this, a similar activity has been carried out at the SUK Selangor staff quarters in Seksyen 16.
