Malaysians and I are happy to see Anwar Ibrahim and Dr. Mahathir Mohamad meet again after 18 years.

On September 5, 2016, both great figures shook hands exactly at 3.09 pm in the High Court - Appellate and Special Powers Division, Level 5, Kompleks Mahkamah Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur.

What the world witnessed then was not just two people shaking hands but two statesmen willing to put aside past differences and bitterness for the sake of the country and Malaysians.

Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended court to file an injunction to prevent the Prime Minister from implementing the National Security Council Act 2016 (NSC Act).

He was also seeking a declaration that the NSC Act is unconstitutional and invalid as it is enforced in accordance to Section 66 (4A) of the Federal Constitution.

The meeting proved that both men have big hearts when the country is facing a leadership crisis and needs a roadmap in order to save the nation and the economy.

As mentioned by Dato’ Seri Anwar in court, Dr. Mahathir’s presence proved that he is prepared to accept agendas of reform.

I am certain that this is the beginning of solidarity for the people and the strengthening of progressive political parties in preparation of the 14th General Election.

Dr. Mahathir had the chance to meet Anwar in private for more than 30 minutes to discuss legal processes and several other issues. YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah and I were also present in the meeting.
