SHAH ALAM, AUG 10:  Selangor will provide affordable Integrated Burial Ground to address problems of land shortage in high-density development areas.

Among the high-density development areas facing shortage of cemetery land are Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Ampang Jaya.

Menteri Besar’s Strategic Communications Press Office’s Director Yin Shao Loong said the Selangor’s State Executive Council (EXCO) decided to allocate 100 acres of land in Sepang for this purpose.

“This matter has been discussed with various parties since 2010.

“The Selangor Government found that the land shortage and privatisation of cemeteries is the latest trend but burdens low and middle-income families,” he said in a media statement.

He said based on the “peduli rakyat” principle, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali has declared that the State Government needs to solve this problem.

He said Mohamed Azmin urged for a solution that takes into account the interests of people regardless of race or religion, and to include those in the lower-income group, so that they are not burdened with high cemetery land costs when in grief.

“The Sepang Municipal Council will manage the implementation.  They will provide more details in the planning approval stage later,” he said.

The Integrated Burial Ground, which combines aspects of Cemetery Areas and Integrated Cemeteries, will feature facilities such as administrative offices, surau, public restrooms, pedestrian and path accesses, maintenance depots and appropriate buffer zones.

Federal Burial Ground refers to an area that can accommodate cemetery requirements for local authorities of neighbouring areas, within close proximity (maximum 45 minutes travel time).

Integrated Burial Ground Development refers to cemeteries for Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Hindus and other religions; and includes crematorium and columbarium facilities in an integrated and organised area.
