GOMBAK, JUL 26: Construction of the Semenyih 2 Water Treatment Plant will begin as soon as possible to avoid any potential water crisis resulting from the delayed Federal Government Langat 2 project.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said that Semenyih 2 is a new water treatment plan project that was announced previously.

"Construction of Semenyih 2 will begin as soon as possible because the open tender process has yet to be completed.

"Langat 2 should have been completed in 2017 to meet the industrial demand and also domestic use in Selangor, but we are disappointed that the project has been delayed and will only be completed in 2019.

"To counter any possibility of a water crisis, the State Government is forced to spend RM800 million to ensure that there is no disruption in water supply in the near future," he said.

Mohamed Azmin said this while launching the 2016 Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Old Pipe Replacement ceremony in Jalan Taman Melawati on July 26.

He explained that the Semenyih 2 and Labuhan Dagang water treatment plants will be funded by the State Government's reserves.

This is in line with the State Government's desire to use its reserves for development projects that will bring a direct positive effect to the citizens of Selangor.
