SPM 2025: Best achievement yet for Malaysia’s students

KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 — The 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results recorded the country’s best achievement yet, with the National Grade Average (GPK) at 4.42 points, improving from 4.49 points in 2024.

Education director-general Datuk Mohd Azam Ahmad said 366,435 candidates, or 94.29 per cent, were eligible to receive their SPM certificates in 2025, up from 355,933 candidates in 2024 — an increase of 10,502 candidates or 0.28 per cent.

“Millions of congratulations to all teachers whose efforts are reflected in these results,” he said at a press conference announcing the 2025 SPM outcomes.

Mohd Azam said the analysis of the results reflected encouraging achievements by candidates and underscored the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) efforts in delivering inclusive and quality education aligned with MADANI Malaysia.

“The results also demonstrate our commitment to maintaining a national assessment system that is transparent, credible, and integrity-driven in line with the Malaysia Education Plan 2026-2035,” he added.

Of the 413,299 candidates registered for SPM 2025, 395,740 were new candidates taking at least six subjects. MOE school candidates recorded an attendance of 348,400 out of 353,432, with 5,032 students missing some subjects — a decrease of 1,214 from 2024, reflecting the effectiveness of MOE initiatives.

The number of candidates obtaining excellent results (Grades A+, A, and A-) in all subjects increased by 3.55 per cent, from 13,827 in 2024 to 13,779 in 2025. Those achieving at least a credit (Grade C) in all subjects rose to 92,347, up from 86,040, while 141,728 candidates earned at least a pass (Grade E), compared to 136,791 in 2024.

The GPK gap between urban and rural candidates narrowed by 0.04 points. Urban candidates recorded 4.40 points (2024: 4.47), while rural candidates achieved 4.81 points (2024: 4.95).
