SHAH ALAM, March 30 — The public is reminded to remain vigilant and maintain cleanliness in their home surroundings to prevent the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes, which spread dengue, chikungunya and Zika.
The Ministry of Health Malaysia, via Facebook, shared several dengue prevention tips, especially during the festive season and school holidays.
“The festive season and school holidays increase public movement, raising the risk of dengue infection. No Aedes, no dengue, chikungunya or Zika,” it said.
Below are the ministry’s recommended preventive measures:
Ensure there are no containers that can collect water around the house
Keep all water storage containers tightly covered and use larvicide
Wear light-coloured clothing and minimise exposed skin (5am–8am and 5pm–8pm)
Use aerosol spray before entering the house to kill adult mosquitoes that may be hiding
With these simple steps, the public can help reduce the risk of dengue even during the busy festive period, it said.
