SUNGAI BULOH, April 1 — Women continue to play a leading role in the Selangor community as the number of female appointed village chiefs in the state has been increased to 16 people.

Selangor Housing and Urban Wellbeing, and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Rodziah Ismail said the increase proves that the state is always moving forward by not setting gender as a condition.

"In the previous term, only five women were appointed. But now, it has reached 16.

"It is also different this time around as compared to before, most village chiefs are old. Now many women offer themselves for the post with the youngest village head is 34 years old," said Rodziah to the media after the Women's Day Celebration for the Paya Jaras state constituency at Kelab Rahman Putra, here yesterday.

According to her, the state has 371 village chiefs and she had not ruled out the possibility that more women will hold the post in the future.

Rodziah, who is also the Selangor PKR Women chief, said 37 out of the 122 local council members post in the state are held by women.

"Thank you to the men for granting this honour and no longer debating about qualification and even giving way to women," she said.
