KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 — A total of 37 customers of an entertainment centre who were having fun and drinking alcohol were compounded RM1,000 each for failing to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) against Covid-19 in Section 19, Petaling Jaya, here, on Friday.

Petaling Jaya district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the customers comprising 17 men and 20 women, aged between 20 and 56 years old, were compounded after the police inspected the rooms at the premises at about 8.50pm.

He said they were compounded under Section 13 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Measures in Local Infected Areas 2020) for not complying with the SOP set by the government.

"Police also arrested the manager of the premises, a 36-year-old local man for failing to submit a valid entertainment centre permit and not having a permit to sell liquor who was released on police bail.

"In addition, the police confiscated 23 bottles of various brands of alcohol, audio equipment and cash amounting to RM4,250.

“The case is being investigated according to Section 76 of the Excise Act 1976, Section 6 (1) of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1998 and Section 269 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement.
