Luas ‘Skuad Pantas’ patrol river basins, prevent pollution

SHAH ALAM, Dec 3 — The Selangor Water Management Authority’s (Luas) Skuad Pantas (Rapid Squad) conducts 24-hour surveillance and stationed monitoring to prevent water pollution in the state.

The agency in a statement said that the patrolling covers sensitive areas at main river basins supplying raw water, namely Sungai Selangor and Sungai Langat.

Luas said the on-site stationed monitoring, on the other hand, involves cooperation with the state’s Economic Planning Unit for the supply of cabins.

“They (the cabins) are equipped with infrastructure facilities by the local authorities and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), which would be more effective in strategic high-risk areas that were identified,” said Luas.

Luas said periodic sampling, such as hygiene analyses at the river basins, can be carried out to monitor the water quality status.

The agency added that it hopes to ensure pollution incidents can be curbed and resolved immediately so that water treatment plants can operate normally to avoid any water supply disruption.

“We urge the people to be vigilant towards the sensitive areas of water sources, especially the rivers, and report any suspicious activities (they see),” said the agency.
