No requirement for roadblocks in Alor Setar city — Police

ALOR SETAR, Sept 18 — There is no requirement to conduct roadblocks around Alor Setar city, despite the Kota setar district having been placed under enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

Alor Setar District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Nor Azman Mohd Noor told Bernama that the police are monitoring the area, including conducting round-the-clock patrols.

“We have surveillance and patrol teams on duty every day. They will conduct checks on vehicles, individuals and premises, and respond to other incidents as well.

“We also have a district control centre to monitor complaints and calls. The traffic department also carried out operations to ensure drivers are not committing road offences,” he said, adding that residents also complied with the directive to stay at home.

Nor Azman said this, following claims that residents in Alor Setar were still moving around freely in the city despite the EMCO.

The EMCO is being enforced in the Kota Setar district from Sept 11 to Sept 25 following the increase in Covid-19 positive cases involving the Sungai and Tawar clusters.

Meanwhile, Nor Azman said a total of 142 compounds were issued as of yesterday to those who violated the directive and standard operating procedures on EMCO.
