SHAH ALAM, June 22 — Night markets in Petaling Jaya will resume operations today with strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), says the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

Its Corporate Communications Unit media secretariat in a statement yesterday said all of the night market traders, including those of the morning markets, have been briefed on the new norms and guidelines that are stipulated during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) period.

“We have also stressed that the market traders are not allowed to employ foreign workers and to always practise good hygiene.

“Failure to comply with the guidelines will result in their license being revoked and not being allowed to resume operations,” the statement read.

Other guidelines that have been underlined by the local council include:

1. Use of personal protective equipment (face shield, gloves, and apron)

2. Workers showing Covid-19 symptoms are not allowed to work and would be classified as persons-under-surveillance (PUS) and persons-under-investigation (PUI) or placed under quarantine

3. Only three workers allowed per stall

4. Customers must adhere to the one-metre social distancing rule

5. Costumers are advised to use the face masks

6. Traders must comply with the rotation system in place

7. Register with the SELangkah (Langkah Masuk Dengan Selamat) contact tracing system when entering the morning or night markets

8. Children below 13-years-old are not allowed to enter and only a maximum of two family members are permitted entry at a time
