Odour pollution: Selangor environment dept issues 30 compounds

PUTRAJAYA, March 19 — The Selangor Department of Environment (DOE) has issued 30 compounds amounting to RM60,000 to the owner of a premise in Kampung Sungai Dua, Rawang found responsible for the odour pollution that caused unscheduled water disruption in some areas in the Klang Valley on Tuesday.

The department, in a statement today, said an operation on the same day found that the premise failed to manage their used engine oil and solvents, while the oil traps were not maintained well. This, it said, has resulted in the drains becoming contaminated with oil residues mixed with solvents.

“Waste samples were taken as evidence and sent to the Chemical Department of Malaysia for waste composition analysis,” the statement read.

It explained that the premises had violated the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Waste) Regulations 2005 of the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

The statement also said that Selangor DOE is currently preparing an investigation paper under Section 16 (1) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 on another premise operating at the Rawang Integrated Industrial Park.
