‘1.454 mln Selangor voters auto-registered from 2022 to 2025’

SHAH ALAM, Feb 26 — About 1.45 million Selangoreans aged 18 and above were automatically registered as voters between 2022 and 2025, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

She added that based on Election Commission (EC) data, the highest number was logged in 2022 with 1.185 million voters, followed by 94,383 new voters in 2023, 88,595 in 2024, and 86,461 in 2025.

Overall, the Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) system saw 7.586 million electors registered nationwide in the same period.

“Voter data stored by the EC is data obtained through the National Registration Department, which is overseen and wholly managed by this sole agency that is responsible for registering the nation’s residents,” she said in a written reply to Parliament yesterday.

She was responding to Tan Hong Pin’s (Harapan-Bakri) question about AVR statistics by state from 2022 to 2025.

AVR was launched by the EC on December 15, 2021, and automatically registers 18-year-old citizens as voters.

According to Azalina, under Regulation 14 of the Elections (Registration of Electors) Regulations 2002, anyone whose name is not on the supplementary electoral list may file a claim by submitting Form C.
